Dossier Winter Sports 2026
What does a ski week with two children aged 7 and 9 really cost when you put everything side by side? We looked up the official price lists of ski resorts, ski schools and vignettes and measured accommodation prices ourselves. Where there is no official price, we refer to the provider’s website, because we don’t guess.
In short: Austria and France have already published their prices for 2026/27. For Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bansko: see official website of the provider (Prices from the provider); their day prices are expected at the start of the season. You can already compare accommodation and travel for all destinations (Table 2).

Accommodation plus travel by car can already be compared for the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria: Lipno (€1,297) and Bansko (€1,359) are the cheapest, Ischgl (€4,600) the most expensive. Ski pass prices 2026/27 for the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bansko follow around the end of November 2026.

Borovets: for children, the official “Big Ski Package” (pass + lessons + rental, €327 per person), so you get more than at the other resorts. Ischgl VIP: only with a guest card (when staying in Ischgl/Mathon); children under 10 then ski for free.

Methodology
- Official prices: only from the website of the ski area, the ski school, the rental company or the authority, accessed 21 Oct 2026.
- Accommodation: own measurement Booking.com (see Table 4), two weeks (13–20 Feb and 16–23 Jan 2027), categories all, apartment and hotel; P25, median and P75 self-calculated.
- Getting there: Car from Utrecht, there and back. Distance and time over OSRM (OpenStreetMap). Consumption 6.5 l/100 km Super 95, fuelled to the average of the respective country (EU Weekly Oil Bulletin). Vignettes for a trip of 8 calendar days: a 10-day vignette, 7-day vignettes count double.
- Exchange rate: ECB reference rate 21 Oct 2026, 1 EUR = 24.262 CZK.
- Percentage differences self-calculated: (target − average) / average.
Caveats
- Ski amadé 6 days (Schladming): the official ticket shop was down for maintenance; the amount comes from that shop’s search results, which we couldn’t check against the product page itself.
- For the ski school prices in Ischgl, Schladming (Tritscher) and Bansko, and for the Borovets ski pass, the source doesn't mention a season.
- Bansko “all” February is a small sample (13 prices).
- Not included: tourist tax, insurance, parking, keycard deposit.
Frequently asked questions
Is winter sports cheaper in the Czech Republic than in Austria?
Yes, for accommodation plus travel: Lipno −66% and Špindlerův Mlýn −42% compared with the average of our three Austrian ski resorts. For the ski pass prices 2026/27 in the Czech Republic: see official website of the provider (Skiareál Špindlerův Mlýn, Lipno), so we leave the total out of the comparison (Table 3).
When are the ski pass prices 2026/27 known?
Probably at the start of the season at the end of November 2026. On 21 October 2026 only season passes were listed for Špindlerův Mlýn, Jasná and Lipno, and only the season pass for Bansko.
How far is it to Bansko?
2225 km one way, 23.0 hours without breaks. Fuel there and back ± €387 (excluding Serbia) and €65 in vignettes.
What is not included in the amounts?
tourist tax, insurance, parking and keycard deposit. We only count prices that have been officially announced, so the sum in Table 1 is not a total price.
