Winter sports in comparison: Czech Republic or Scandinavia?

Distance: the biggest difference
From Utrecht you can reach Krkonoše or the Lipno reservoir in about ten hours. Using the same route planner, Trysil in Norway is almost twice as far, and Åre in Sweden more than twice as far. Driving times exclude breaks, traffic jams and waiting at bridges and ferries.

The travel costs are fuel plus the bridges Denmark-Sweden (€175); Trysil does not include the Norwegian road toll, so the real amount is a bit higher there and the distance to Austria a bit lower.
We estimate fuel back and forth to Špindlerův Mlýn at ± €259 and to Lipno at ± €258 (6.5 l/100 km, EU Weekly Oil Bulletin 19 Oct 2026). For Trysil and Åre we cover the travel costs from the measurement of the sister site (see **): Fuel ± €486 and ± €543 return, plus €175 for the bridges.
